This is where the GSR starts to retake some ground, but let's start with the M50/C50. Due to the ability for the front grille to be removed it can take a variety of different comms systems, if you really wanted to you could 3d print a grille with a clansman radio port for example, this allows for high adaptability among militaries which might explain one of the reasons of its adopted by the Danes and the New Zealanders. but mostly bad, it has no capability for a internal microphone currently (however due to its modularity which I'll go into more detail later it could in theory be equipped with one) but rather a voice diaphragm which has stuff clip onto the outside of it, sadly the VPU for the GSR/FRR is utter shite compared to the M50s but the comms gear that can be used is quite intriguing. Starting with the M50: it has capability for an internal microphone which can be linked up to a variety of devices, a VPU and comms equipment are the two main things which jump to mind, having an internal microphone allows for clear sounding audio which is hugely beneficial in a crowd control and general operations scenarios it also means you don't have to have as much bulk on the comms equipment on the outside of the mask. The M50 once again wins in this field HOWEVER the GSR does have some advantages in this also. However, just to keep in mind it isn't exactly a very uncomfortable mask either, I've worn worse.ĬOMMS: I'd like to make this clear first I do not have comms gear for either of these masks, I am going on what I've read and what I've handled. The oral nasal cup itself is also nice and comfy which is a plus, but again I'll go into detail on that later. The GSR on the otherhand has a dual seal which isn't the most comfortable, coupled with the chin rest not really existing apart from on the oral nasal cup, there is also an annoying bit of hard rubber at the bottom that provides significant discomfort after a long period of time (1hr), this along with poor weight distribution compared to the M50 can make your face ache even more. ![]() The oral nasal cup is also very comfy but I'll talk about that more later. No real match here, the M50 blows the GSR out the water in terms of comfort, with a well shaped chin rest and all around seal it provides for little to no discomfort in comparison to the GSR and other masks, even after being used for long periods of time (I tested it for around an hour). ![]() Before I go into the comparison I'll just say that I will not be comparing the bayonet filter system for the most part, this is due to the fact I own only a C50 and not an actual M/FM50 so I'll only be comparing the fact that the GSR can be field converted to take 40mm.ĬOMFORT.
